The Russian-Vietnamese Entente: A New Chapter in Bilateral Ties
Russian President Vladimir Putin arrives in Hanoi, accompanied by Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko, and Russian Ambassador to Vietnam Gennady Bezdetko. President Putin begins a two-day state visit to Vietnam, from June 19-20, following an invitation from Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong. This marks the fifth official visit to Vietnam by the Russian President. Vietnam and Russia share a long history, with diplomatic relations established on January 30, 1950. The two nations upgraded their ties to a Strategic Partnership in 2001 and further to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2012.
