The Whispering Scissors: An Exclusive Hanoi Barbershop Experience

Image
Tam Le, a reader, recently shared her memorable experience of trying out a unique barbershop in Hanoi with Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper. The shop is known for its distinctive communication style, as the owner and his wife interact solely through text messages and gestures. Le recounted how new customers often express their desired hairstyle upon entering, only to discover the unique way of communication employed by the couple. Despite this initial surprise, all are drawn back to the shop after the first try. A Harmonious Wordless Experience Le shared that she urgently needed to wash her hair one day and decided to visit Tuan Hang barbershop on Tay Son Street in Hanoi’s Dong Da District. Upon entering, she was greeted by the shop owner with a warm smile and a gesture to read an introduction on the wall. The introduction revealed that the owner, Tuan, is a highly skilled and experienced hearing-impaired barber who requests customers’ assistance in effective communication to achieve t...

The Pearl of Asia’s Island: Phu Quoc Among the Top 10 in the Continent

Here is my attempt at rewriting the provided text: Phu Quoc, a picturesque island off the coast of Vietnam, is taking center stage in the travel sphere. With the recent addition of a luxurious five-star resort, the island is now a step closer to becoming the country’s premier beach destination, as touted by a prominent travel website. Despite this newfound attention, Phu Quoc retains its laid-back allure and unique local spirit, as distinctive as the island’s renowned fish sauce. DestinAsian, a respected travel authority, highlights the island’s culinary delights, including the famous nuoc mam (fish sauce), black pepper, seafood, and a unique pink wine crafted from rose myrtle fruit. The island is also known for its lustrous pearls. In a list of top beach destinations in the region, Phu Quoc holds its own among heavyweights like Bali, Indonesia (taking the top spot), the Maldives, Phuket and Koh Samui in Thailand, and Boracay in the Philippines. The remaining destinations roundin...

Hanoi celebrates 995th anniversary of the Pledge of Allegiance Festival at Dong Co Temple

Image
In the middle of the courtyard of Dong Co Temple, Tay Ho District, Hanoi, an incense burner was lit. People gathered in a solemn atmosphere and recited the oath: “The unfilial children, the disloyal servants, God will destroy them.” That’s the main rite of the Loyalty Oath Festival of Dong Co Temple, which has been maintained in the capital for nearly 1,000 years. Thanks to its historical and cultural values, the festival has been recognized as a national intangible cultural heritage. The festival is the only one that provides a place for mandarins of the past and Party members of the present to take an oath of loyalty to the country. It’s also an opportunity for the people to show gratitude to their ancestors and pray for national peace and prosperity. Dong Co Temple is located on Thuy Khue Street, about 300 meters from the southwestern shore of the West Lake. Legend has it that in 1020, Crown Prince Phat Ma (later enthroned as King Ly Thai Tong) led a troop south to fight the in...
