The Hanoi Lotus Festival kicked off with a spectacular opening ceremony on the Trinh Cong Son pedestrian street. A highlight of the event, the ceremony featured a captivating art show with 1,200 professional and amateur performers on a floating stage, enhanced by underwater light mapping technology—a unique effect celebrating the vibrancy and beauty of the lotus plant. As a first-of-its-kind event, the festival also showcased a range of activities, including OCOP product introductions and exhibits showcasing the culture of northern mountain provinces. At the opening ceremony, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, Ho An Phong, emphasized that the event was more than just an international cultural and entertainment festival. It was also a celebration of the natural beauty, rich culture, and vibrant people of the beach city of Nha Trang. He noted that the festival presented an opportunity to showcase a peaceful, developing, and culturally prosperous Vietnam to the world. Ho An Phong expressed his confidence in the festival’s ability to boost local tourism, helping Khanh Hoa achieve its ambitious target of welcoming 9 million visitors this year, including 3 million international tourists, with a projected tourism revenue of VND40 trillion (approximately US$1.6 billion). Ho Chi Minh City to Host Inaugural River Festival

City dwellers and tourists will have the opportunity to participate in the festival at various locations, including the Saigon Cruise Port, the Bach Dang Wharf Park, the Nhieu Loc-Thi Nghe Canal area, the Binh Dong Wharf, and the Suoi Tien Cultural Tourist Area. During a press conference on the festival held on July 12 in Ho Chi Minh City, Nguyen Thi Anh Hoa, Director of the City Department of Tourism, announced that a wide range of activities will be held along the Saigon River to attract tourists through art performances and promotional programs. These efforts aim to stimulate consumer demand during the peak summer season. Vietnamese Films in Running for ASEAN International Film Festival

Vietnam is set to participate in the upcoming ASEAN International Film Festival and Awards (AIFFA) 2023 in Kuching, Malaysia from August 2 to August 4. The country will be showcasing two movies to compete for prestigious titles at the event. Two films, Memento Mori: Land directed by Marcus Manh Cuong Vu and Dem toi ruc ro (The Brilliant Darkness) by Aaron Toronto, have been chosen to participate in a competition among 120 other films at the festival.  A scene in Memento Mori: Land directed by Marcus Manh Cuong Vu.  Memento Mori: Land had its premiere in Vietnam in October 2022. Vietnamese Art Featured at BIENALSUR 2023 in Argentina

German-Vietnamese designer Tra My Nguyen’s artwork is inspired by the culture of Vietnamese women riding motorbikes. Her work has gained significant attention at the exhibition, marking her first time showcasing her art. Tra My Nguyen, born in Hanoi in 1992 and raised in Germany, found inspiration in the sun protective clothing worn by Vietnamese women on motorbikes. The BIENALSUR biennial exhibition of contemporary art was first launched in 2015 and continues to be a platform for art and culture. The 2023 edition, taking place from July 8 to December 22, will feature artwork exhibited in over 70 cities across 27 countries and territories on five continents.
