The New Belgium Boss: Garcia’s Vision for Hazard and Courtois

Image
Roberto Martinez’s successor has been named, and it’s none other than Rudi Garcia. The Belgian football association has appointed the Frenchman as their new boss, choosing him over competitors like Thierry Henry, Julen Lopetegui, and Mark van Bommel. This announcement came earlier in the day, marking an exciting new chapter for Belgian football. At 60 years old, Garcia brings a wealth of experience to the table. He has previously coached notable clubs like Napoli, Lyon, and Roma, and his task now is to convince Thibaut Courtois to return to the national team. Courtois, who is considered by Garcia as the best goalkeeper in the world, had self-exiled himself due to differences with former coach Domenico Tedesco. Garcia, addressing the media during his unveiling, expressed his confidence in Courtois’ quality and shared his optimism about initial positive signals from the goalkeeper. While Matz Sels and Koen Casteels are capable options, getting Courtois back would be a massive boost for...

In Vietnam, child protection hotline a true lifesaver

Image
Calls of all types Operators at the child protection hotline recently took a call from the aunt who was worried that her eight-year-old nephew wouldn’t be able to attend school because he had no birth certificate. According to the aunt, the child’s mother did not take a DNA test upon her son’s birth and therefore the boy wasn’t issued a birth certificate. “We are in the process of working with authorities to help the mother register for a birth certificate for her son,” an operator from the hotline said. “If the mother refuses, authorities will fine her because the child must be given a birth certificate and he has every right to go to school.” All day, every day, phones ring off the hooks in the 50-square-meter office where the hotline is housed. Of course, while adults use the hotline to access help in relatively extreme situations, children also reach out to the hotline with their own, more unique issues: “I want to ask the switchboard operator to help me fix my phone,” “I h...
