Truc Bach by Night: A Three-Day Extravaganza Attracting 40,000 Visitors

“Truc Bach Night,” a unique tourism initiative by Hanoi’s Ba Dinh District, attracted approximately 40,000 visitors during its three-day launch event from November 29 to December 1.

This inaugural event marked the debut of Hanoi’s first open-air “living museum,” vividly bringing to life the streets, spaces, and cultural ambiance of the subsidy era.

With a remarkable turnout, “Truc Bach Night” has quickly become one of Hanoi’s most distinctive nighttime attractions, offering both local and international visitors a captivating, immersive journey back in time.

The event’s standout feature was its meticulous recreation of the subsidy-era atmosphere. The entire venue was transformed into a life-like movie set, evoking the charm of an old Hanoi neighborhood.

Visitors were transported back in time with vintage trams, state-run department stores, and nostalgic urban landscapes that evoked memories of Vietnam’s rich historical tapestry.

The heart and soul of the event were the four tramcars, themed “Hanoi Street Museum.” These tramcars were creatively renovated to showcase the culinary traditions of Hanoi and Vietnam, featuring rice and grains, noodle delights (pho and bun), and nostalgic kitchen setups.

These moving cultural exhibits, or “mini-museums on wheels,” offered a dynamic exploration of Hanoi’s heritage, providing a memorable experience for those eager to delve into the city’s historical and culinary narrative.

Attendees had the opportunity to immerse themselves in old Hanoi through familiar artifacts, century-old electric poles, public water taps, neighborhood bulletin boards, and traditional transportation modes. They also discovered historic street trades, interactive art performances, culinary treats, and captivating stories that celebrated the essence of Hanoi.

The Cultural Harmony series, a key component of Truc Bach Night under the Tram Line No. 6 project, included experiential shows such as “The Flow of Pho,” “Fragrance of Young Rice,” and “Tea Stories of the Past.” Interactive street performances like “Stories of the Subsidy-Era Streets” and a music and beer festival inspired by the subsidy era added to the event’s allure.

“Truc Bach Night” is a testament to the ward’s commitment to enhancing the appeal of its Dao Ngoc-Ngu Xa pedestrian zone. In August 2024, Ngoc Island – Truc Bach in Ba Dinh District was recognized as a city-level tourist destination by Hanoi, further solidifying its place on the map.
