Vietnam and Cuba Strengthen Justice Cooperation

A delegation from Vietnam’s Supreme People’s Court, led by Deputy Chief Justice Nguyen Van Tien, visited Cuba from May 13 to 18 to enhance bilateral relations and attend the 11th International Meeting of Justice and Law.

During a working session with Chief Justice of the Supreme People’s Court of Cuba, Rubén Remigio Ferro, Tien highlighted the progress made in judicial cooperation between the two countries. He also briefed his Cuban counterpart on recent reforms in Vietnam’s court system, including institutional improvements, procedural reforms, the development of electronic courts, and the integration of information technology.

Tien emphasized that Vietnam’s long-term judicial reform strategy aims to build a people-centered justice system, enhance the capacity of judges, establish electronic courts, and foster international experience sharing.

He underscored the importance of continuing to cultivate a close relationship between the court systems of Vietnam and Cuba, ensuring mutual support and exchange of expertise.

Ferro, the Cuban chief justice, shared Cuba’s approach to modernizing its court system and noted similarities in the process of refining the judicial framework in both countries.

Expressing his interest in Vietnam’s experience in judicial reconciliation, Ferro proposed knowledge exchanges and thematic workshops to further explore areas of similarity and mutual benefit.

As a token of appreciation, the Vietnamese delegation presented laptops to the Supreme People’s Court of Cuba.

The 11th International Meeting of Justice and Law, held in Havana, brought together approximately 400 delegates from Cuba and other nations.

Discussions centered on topics such as population aging, judicial impartiality, legal interpretation, family and civil matters, and responses to domestic and gender-based violence.

During their visit, the Vietnamese delegation paid tribute to President Ho Chi Minh at a park named in his honor in Havana and visited the Fidel Castro Center, a site dedicated to preserving the legacy of Cuba’s revolutionary leader.

President Ho Chi Minh: Eternal Inspiration for Vietnam’s Youth

As Vietnam commemorates the 134th birthday of President Ho Chi Minh, young Vietnamese reflect on his enduring legacy and the values he instilled in the nation’s youth.

Xuan Kien, a student from Hanoi, shared, “President Ho Chi Minh united the Vietnamese people and dedicated his life to the nation’s independence and happiness. His ideas and legacy continue to guide Vietnam’s renewal, propelling the country towards rapid and sustainable development.”

Ho Chi Minh’s example has inspired a generation of young people to excel in their studies and contribute to society. Youth movements such as “Youth Startups,” “Youth Safeguarding the Homeland,” and “Creative Youth” have flourished, fostering a sense of patriotism and innovation.

Ngoc Huyen, a student at Trade Union University, emphasized the importance of studying and emulating Ho Chi Minh’s ideology, ethics, and lifestyle, particularly for the youth. She shared her commitment to volunteering, sports, and continuous self-improvement.

Ho Chi Minh’s vision and values continue to illuminate the path for Vietnam’s youth, empowering them to build a stronger and more prosperous nation.

Support for Vietnamese Businesses Affected by Warsaw Fire

The Vietnamese community in Poland has come together to support Vietnamese businesses affected by the fire at the Marywilska shopping center in Warsaw. The Vietnamese Association in Poland has received over 900,000 PLN (approximately 230,000 USD) in donations from individuals and organizations.

Support will be distributed in multiple phases to ensure that all impacted businesses receive assistance. The first round of financial aid was provided to business households on May 18.

In addition to financial support, essential items were also distributed by individuals, organizations, and associations within the Vietnamese community in Poland.

The Embassy of Vietnam in Poland also offered mobile consular services at the support delivery point, assisting individuals with the necessary documentation.

Vietnam Tops Indian Travelers’ Destination List

According to Livemint.com, an Indian business and financial newspaper, Vietnam has emerged as a favored international destination for Indian travelers. A report by Mastercard’s Economics Institute titled “Travel Trends 2024: Breaking Boundaries” revealed a significant spike in Indian outbound travel to Vietnam, with a 248% increase compared to 2019 levels.

The report also indicated a shift in traveler preferences, with Indian travelers extending their trips by an additional day in the year ended March 2024 compared to 2019. This underscores a growing appetite for immersive and meaningful travel experiences.

An analysis of Indian passenger arrivals in popular destinations such as the US, Japan, and Vietnam highlighted a strong performance by Vietnam, with a 59% increase in Indian passenger arrivals compared to 2019.

David Mann, chief economist for Asia Pacific at Mastercard, attributed this success to the addition of direct flights and the strong demand for intra-regional travel.

Vietnam’s Film Industry Soars to New Heights

Vietnam’s film industry is experiencing a remarkable boom, with record-breaking box office revenues, prestigious awards, and international recognition.

Recent successes by Vietnamese and Vietnamese-born directors at international film festivals and awards have sparked excitement among filmmakers and producers. Ha Le Diem’s documentary “Nhung Dua Tre Trong Suong” (“Children of the Mist”) has garnered acclaim on the international documentary circuit, telling the story of a teenage Hmong girl challenging traditional customs.

Bui Thac Chuyen’s feature film “Tro Tan Ruc Ro” (“Glorious Ashes”) has also made waves, receiving nominations and awards at the Tokyo International Film Festival and the Festival des 3 Continents in Nantes, France. It has also won Vietnam’s Golden Kite and Golden Lotus awards and represented the country at the Oscars.

At the 2023 Cannes Film Festival, two Vietnamese directors made their mark: Tran Anh Hung won Best Director for “The Pot au Feu,” and Pham Thien An received the Camera D’or for “Ben Trong Vo Ken Vang” (“Inside the Yellow Cocoon Shell”).

The British Film Institute’s Sight and Sound magazine further cemented Vietnam’s cinematic achievements by including “Inside the Yellow Cocoon Shell” and “The Pot au Feu” in its list of the 50 best films of 2023.

Commercially, Vietnam’s film industry has also thrived, with 2023 seeing record-high revenues despite a lower number of film releases. The success of films like “Nha Ba Nu” (“The House with No Man”) underscores the rapid development of Vietnam’s cinema market and the growing appetite for local productions.
