Wet markets and supermarkets reopen after Lunar New Year’s Day
Most wet markets and supermarkets resumed operations on February 11, the second day of the Lunar New Year. Supermarkets offered essential goods at unchanged prices under the price stabilization program.
At wet markets, there was a slightly reduced supply of food and vegetables compared to before the Lunar New Year holiday, causing a slight increase in prices. Some gift baskets, beer, and soft drinks also saw a slight price increase.
Although most supermarkets were closed on New Year’s Day (February 10), Aeon Mall and Gigamall chains remained open. Convenience stores like Bsmart, CircleK, and FamilyMart operated 24/7 on February 10 to cater to local consumers’ needs.
The Ministry of Finance requested relevant ministries and localities to closely monitor market developments and intervene if necessary. Special attention should be paid to the prices of essential goods and those with high price fluctuations to ensure a balanced supply and stabilize the market.

Foreign medical experts and students celebrate Tet in Vietnam
Cuban experts and doctors at the Dong Hoi Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Hospital in the central province of Quang Binh, as well as international students at Thai Nguyen University in the northern province of the same name, joined in the celebration of the Lunar New Year, known as Tet in Vietnam.
At the Dong Hoi Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Hospital, a cozy year-end dinner was held to allow Vietnamese staff to connect with Cuban doctors and medical experts and enjoy traditional Vietnamese dishes during Tet. Cuban experts were given time to experience Tet while remaining prepared to assist in treating emergency cases.
In Thai Nguyen University, the international faculty organized cultural promotion programs to introduce Tet customs to international students and provided Tet visits and support activities for those staying in the dormitory during the festival.
Thai Nguyen University currently has 877 foreign students from 23 countries and territories. It considers training this group as an important task and strives to provide the best conditions for them to study and integrate into the local society. The Tet holiday offers them an opportunity to gain more experiences and understanding of Vietnam’s history, culture, and people, further strengthening the friendship between Vietnam and other countries, according to the university’s vice-rector, Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Thanh Van.

Vietnamese key fruits, like litchi, are now imported into the EU (Photo: VOV) |
EU ranks third in Vietnamese fruits and vegetables consumption
The export turnover of Vietnamese fruits and vegetables to the European Union has significantly increased in recent years. In 2023, it reached US$399 million, making the EU the third-largest consumer of Vietnamese products. Businesses continue to seek opportunities to boost exports to the EU, taking full advantage of tariff incentives provided by the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA).
Vietnamese fruits and vegetables have a potential market in the EU. If businesses can export to this market, they will have the opportunity to enter many other markets, provided they invest in technology, preservation techniques, and product quality, according to Dang Phuc Nguyen, general secretary of the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association (Vinafruit).
Although the EU imposes strict regulations on product quality, Vietnamese businesses are advised to regularly monitor and adjust their export goods to comply with the updated regulations. They need to focus on testing and controlling pesticide and plant protection product residues to avoid product destruction or rejection. The EU is known for its stringent food hygiene and safety standards, so products exported to the EU must meet European standards and international certificates, such as GlobalGAP, said Phuc Nguyen, the Vinafruit leader.
