Vietnamese Girl Finishes as Runner-Up at World Youth Rapid and Blitz Chess Championships

An impressive performance was delivered by An, who was the fifth seed with an Elo rating of 1,459. Throughout the tournament, she secured eight wins, two draws, and only suffered one loss in her 11 games. This exceptional record earned her a total of nine points and the silver medal.

The event was won by Altynbek Aiaru from Kazakhstan, who scored 10.5 points with an outstanding record of 10 victories out of 11 games. An’s only draw in the tournament occurred in the match against Aiaru.

In addition to An’s silver medal, three other Vietnamese chess players also achieved notable results. Le Phan Hoang Quan, Dau Khuong Duy, and Nguyen Hong Nhung secured three bronze medals in the Boys U8, Boys U12, and Girls U18 blitz chess categories, respectively.

In the preceding rapid chess competitions, Le Thai Hoang Anh, Dau Khuong Duy, and Pham Tran Gia Phuc displayed exceptional performances and secured three gold medals in the Girls U12, Boys U12, and Boys U14 categories, respectively.

Furthermore, there were two additional silver medals and one bronze medal awarded to Vietnamese chess players in the tournament.

The World Youth Rapid and Blitz Chess Championships 2023, co-hosted by the International Chess Federation (FIDE) and the Georgian Chess Federation, is scheduled to take place from June 5 to 12. This prestigious event will bring together 462 chess players from 35 countries and territories. Vietnam will be represented by a contingent of 13 talented young chess players.
