Two Vietnamese films in the running for 2023 Oscar
Two Vietnamese films have been selected by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences as contenders for the International Feature Film Award at the 2023 Oscars.
The list included 27 animated films, 144 documentaries, and international feature movies from 92 countries.
The two Vietnamese films on the list are “‘578: Phat Dan Cua Ke Dien” (578: Magnum) and the documentary feature “Nhung Dua Tre Trong Suong” (Children of the Mist).
“578: Magnum,” an action movie directed by Luong Dinh Dung, was submitted to the Academy Awards in September.
Director Ha Le Diem’s “Children of the Mist” is among the best documentaries to be released in Vietnam this year and has been screened at film festivals in several countries, including the U.S., France, Australia, Mexico, Kosovo, Singapore, and Cambodia.
“Children of the Mist” won Best International Film at the 2022 Docaviv Film Festival in Israel and Best Directing Award at the International Documentary Film Festival (IDFA) in the Netherlands, giving Vietnamese cinephiles hope that it will win big at the Oscars.
The shortlist for the Best Documentary Feature and Best International Feature Film of the Oscars will be announced on December 21.
The official nomination will be announced on January 24, 2023.
The 95th Academy Awards will be held at Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on March 12, 2023.
